Learning & Explainer Videos
Short videos with a clear role in the learning experience
I use video when seeing a concept in action can make it easier to understand. Within a larger program, a short explainer can give learners enough context to make sense of the next topic or connect a new idea to their work.

Featured project: Digital Commerce
The Digital Commerce program explores how shoppers find products on retailer websites. One explainer focused on retailer search algorithms: what happens after a shopper enters a search and why some products appear more prominently than others.

How the video supported the program
The video gave learners a familiar starting point: a shopper looking at a page of search results. From there, it connected what shoppers see to the broader topic of product visibility, giving learners a concrete example to draw on as they explored retailer search and retail media.

How I develop the videos
• Define the video’s job. I start with where the video fits in the program and what learners need to understand before they move on. That helps me decide what belongs in the video and what the surrounding lesson can cover.

• Work with subject matter experts. I use source materials and conversations with SMEs to identify what learners need to know, where they might get confused, and which examples reflect the real work. I review the draft with SMEs to make sure the explanation stays accurate as I simplify it.

• Write for the ear and the screen. I script the narration alongside the visual directions so each does a different job. The narration explains what matters; the visuals show what’s happening or where to look. Reading the script aloud helps me catch awkward phrasing and pace the explanation before production.

• Build, edit, and review. I choose tools based on what the video needs to show. I use Camtasia for screen recordings and editing, Colossyan when a presenter helps guide the explanation, and Rise or Storyline to place the video in context. Before finalizing, I check the timing, captions, and how the video flows into the surrounding lesson.
